Mental Health First Aid Training (Virtual)

Description: MHA is offering a Mental Health First Aid Training that will be held virtually on Zoom. Mental Health First Aid helps you assist someone experiencing a mental health or substance use-related crisis. In the Mental Health First Aid course, you learn risk factors and warning signs for mental health and addiction concerns, strategies for how to help someone in both crisis and non-crisis situations, and where to turn for help. Mental Health First Aid teaches about recovery and resiliency – the belief that individuals experiencing these challenges can and do get better, and use their strengths to stay well. Please note, participants are required to do 2 hours of pre-work before joining the training.

QPR Training (Virtual)
Date: Monday, December 9th, 2024 from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm

Description: The Mental Health Association in Delaware is offering a free QPR training on Zoom. QPR stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer — the 3 simple steps anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. Just as people trained in CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help. Each year thousands of Americans, like you, are saying "Yes" to saving the life of a friend, colleague, sibling, or neighbor.

Higher Education Suicide Prevention Conference (In-Person)

Location: University of Delaware’s The Audion/Atrium (Newark, DE)
Description: Join us as we explore this year’s theme of “Lighting the Way: Illuminating Paths to Suicide Prevention" and examine how culture plays a role in mental wellbeing and suicide prevention in the higher education community. Through the keynote speaker, panel and self-care activity, we'll share valuable insights and provide tools to become more culturally aware in suicide prevention efforts. Breakfast will be provided, an optional networking lunch will be offered, prizes will be raffled, Narcan trainings will be available, therapy dogs will be present and resources will be shared.

ASIST (In-Person)
Date: Wednesday, April 24th to Thursday, April 25th from 8:30 am – 4:00 pm
Location: Community Service Building (Wilmington, DE)
Description: The Mental Health Association in Delaware is offering a free in-person Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) at the Community Service Building (100 W. 10th Street, Wilmington, DE 19801). ASIST is a two-day in-person workshop featuring powerful audiovisuals, discussions, and simulations. During the workshop, you’ll learn how to recognize when someone may be thinking about suicide, and how to provide a skilled intervention and develop a safety plan with the person to connect them to further support. Please note, the training takes place from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm on each day and requires that participants attend both days in full duration. Registrations for these trainings are extremely limited and highly sought after. Please only sign up if you are absolutely certain that you are able to attend.
